In the age where wanting immediate successes is becoming a norm, the idea of progress seems to suffer. There are people who relate the word to mere online following/appreciation, while others only call it progress when it is a huge leap in their careers. Although they could all be correct too, we believe that progress shouldn’t be determined by solely achieving goals but also the little steps we take to achieving them.
To strengthen this idea, with Johnnie Walker, we asked their most recent Johnnie Weekend artists to define progress in their own perspectives. IV of Spades, a rising young band, shared that progress for them is more about the process – the journey that one takes towards success and accomplishing goals. While DJ and producer, Allan Malabanan aka LUSTBASS, discussed how the mundane and ordinary is also part of a person’s progress. And lastly, Mvltiverse, composed of Derek Tumala and Clarissa Gonzalez, who are visual artists utilizing moving image, new media, and installations. They believed that progress for them is about making an impact through their works, seeing that what they do also mean something positive to other people.
This all means that non-fulfillment of our goals, or at least not yet, shouldn’t hinder us from feeling progress. Empowering ourselves through little successes will bring us to better heights, instead of focusing on our shortcomings and failures. Progress is about everything we do to better ourselves, and we should believe that we can achieve it daily.
