As a culture, we are not only known to be hospitable, but also as a nation that produces very talented musicians. So when music fell off a bit from our radar in the past year, we had to rethink on how to serve the local music community and industry better this time around. We could always go back to writing about and posting new local track and music video releases (which we will still do from time to time), but we believed we can do better.

This drive led us to explore platforms, specifically, YouTube. With its power to attract global viewers and listeners, it felt like the best place to start. Through our brief research, the local landscape still lacked a music channel that’s as diverse and tasteful as we want. So we understood that this gap and opportunity has great potential. The local music scene has been so diverse in the past decade that it wouldn’t be so difficult to find an artist for almost all genres.

Additionally, though music can solely be enjoyed through listening, we know for sure that the visual aspect of it can be as vital. So utilizing video platforms also provide another facet to this opportunity, for local artist to not only be heard, but also be seen. All these combined, we approached Playhouse Studio and Jorge Wieneke V (aka Similarobjects) of Cosmic Sonic Arts to partner with us to create Sound Fiesta – a channel to explore the diversity of Filipino made music.

To jumpstart this new series, we have Rjay Ty with Yung Bawal performing “The Good”. This is 1 of the the initial 4 videos we are releasing this month. The video is shot in Go Motion’s rooftop in Makati City. We’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, let us know below. And if you like what you see, we hope you can help us share the good music out in the digital world by sharing the video above.

Sound Fiesta is supported by Johnnie Walker, and in collaboration with Playhouse Studio and Cosmic Sonic Arts.
