The latest season of Sound Fiesta kicks off with YoMo aka Yolanda Moon performing ‘Light of Day pt. 2’ from their eponymous debut album. The song starts off with lead vocalist Cholo Hermosa’s commanding voice, belting off the first note – and it’s the kind of voice that’s almost impossible to ignore as soon as you hear it. Drumbeats soon follow it, making you tap your foot or bob your head as the rhythm goes along. And their whole performance just keeps getting better with every transition from there on.

The song’s melodies give off a light, easy yet almost anthem-like feel – definitely a tune that’s easy to dance around to and play when you’re feeling a bit festive or joyful, especially when you’re with friends. Or the kind you’ll loudly and gladly sing along to in a live performance. It combines elements of jazz, folk, alternative, and even a little bit of soul. It’s quite difficult to come up with a comparison or even a description for its sound because hearing it for the first time is quite frankly, a breath of fresh air, in every good way possible.

YoMo’s album took quite some time to come around, but it’s songs like “Light of Day  pt. 2” that make everything worth all the wait.
