The intro of ‘Modeus’ starts off slow, coy, and deceivingly simple—only guitar strums and deep base lines can be heard. Finely-tuned and distorted drum beats follow, and soon we are taken to a mixture of quiet confidence and bouts of sadness—akin to the song’s vibe and lyrics.
Throughout the song, The Ringmaster blurs the lines between genres. At one point, they take cues from electronic music, adds a hint of folk, and then we hear alternative. It’s the kind of music that is endlessly fascinating; you don’t know what to expect, leaving you wondering how the song goes until the end.
