Ever since hip hop found its way in conventional mainstream consciousness, the purveyors of the genre have tried to expand it in different ways — some infuse it with rock elements while others blend electronic beats to make it distinct. In the past decade or so, we’ve heard numerous arrangements — various revamping and remixing of the genre. But whenever it is reworked, it seems like it is always through its musical direction — its tunes, beats, and arrangement.

A few take the genre and deconstruct it in a less serious manner. Pure Mind Quiet Heart brings forth a new perspective to hip hop, not through a new musical style, but through a new lifestyle that envelops the genre. Now, it’s not about life’s struggles, gangs, riches, or girls, PMQH is all about food and food culture. Not that all the former are less appealing, there’s just a certain charm and uniqueness in using food and food culture to make hip hop music.

Listen to Pure Mind Quiet Heart in this episode of Sound Fiesta as he performs ‘Toyomancy’, a track that is part of his 2018 mixtape, ‘Miryenda Deluxe’.
