For most of us who fell in love, we all know the thrill of chasing after someone over the gray areas of staying friends or being something more. Jess Connelly perfectly sums up that feeling in “Lock” the latest release from her EP “ATM.” It is an anthem that seems to be created for the suspenseful and equally frustrating waiting game.

Sonically, it perfectly encapsulates the jumbled up feelings brought by being stuck in that situation. And the music video, released last April 21, is no different. It comes in at the perfect time when our love lines were suddenly placed on hold, leaving us at the mercy of our own hopes and assumptions while we painstakingly long for that overdue confession.

Directed by David Camarena, who has worked with international artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, and Kehlani, just to name a few, the video features footages of  Jess showcasing visually the feelings that most of us go through this in frustrating phase — from stubbornly waiting for a call to that all-too-familiar dazed feeling. The somber almost vintage-like colors create an illusion of suspense and secrecy.

“Do you wonder why I’m always looking right for ya/ This is overdue, when you coming thru?” Lock explores the dilemma of wanting more while also avoiding the risks of coming across as “too forward.” It’s a common theme in our contemporary dating fairy tales, something that surely more than a handful can relate to.
