Singer, song-writer, and rapper Mito Fabie, better known as Curtismith, joins us in Sound Fiesta  with his newest single “Iñigo Zobel”. Following the  singles “Day147”, “Can’t Get Enough” and the Dining Table EP (2019), Iñigo Zobel draws flavor from jazzy influences, punctuated by tightly paced rhymes, while still riding on that mellow vibe.

One of the mainstays of the local music scene, we chatted with Curtismith where he shared how he’s coping with the new normal, his inspiration behind the song, and his future plans for his craft.

How have you been, and what’s keeping you busy recently?

I’m doing okay. The new normal gave me plenty of time to myself and reassess the trajectory I was heading in as an artist. I’ll spare the details, but now I’m working independently again with my in house team at Mango Room and I have a day job now working in publishing.

Tell us about Iñigo Zobel, and the creative process it went through.

I’ve been writing music since I was around 14. So for  me, making these songs is the most natural thing. Kind of a catharsis of whatever emotion I’m feeling at the time. I heard the beat and instantly thought “This is probably what Iñigo Zobel’s life sounds like.” I love the song in its entirety so no one part sticks out. But what made me really proud was when I asked him (Iñigo Zobel) to review the song before I released it, he gave me his approval. That’s all I really needed.

As a creative, what are the challenging parts of making music during this time and how do you get around that?

I think it’s the limited access to in-person collaboration, especially if you don’t have the resources or expertise. There’s always a way around it depending on your situation. For me it was saving money, finding the right people and investing in a studio. Thankfully I’ve been able to go back to making music since the MECQ.

Any future projects we should look forward to?

I’m working on an album. I was doing music full time for around 5 years and have yet to release an album so this is very exciting for me. And I’m pouring my best to this one.

Can you tell us more about the album you’re working on?

Not really. It’s something I’m very proud of and want to keep it to myself before I release it for people to consume and criticize. Haha!
