Creative and Curious — the words that encapsulate what PURVEYR stands for. Seven years of championing the local creative culture — from starting as a digital outlet for local news, to expanding to print and serving as an avenue for local brands and personalities to share their stories, to making our content much more tangible through pocket events, to venturing to retail as the physical manifestation of what we stood for — PURVEYR has grown and transformed in leaps and bounds. And in celebrating our seventh anniversary, we continue to do so. This year, we collaborated with seven local fashion brands — each with their own unique style and aesthetic — to define the PURVEYR brand and vision through their lens.

The result? Seven mini collections that are so distinct yet honest and refined. Read on to know more about each collaboration. See it all come to life on September 28 at PURVEYR Post Poblacion for the exhibit and shopping party culminating PURVEYR’s 7th.

RANDOLF

At its core, Randolf is a clothing line that pokes fun at the seemingly obsessive pop culture. With ‘90s MTV, together with bands such as Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, No Doubt, Garbage, as its inspiration, how then did they translate PURVEYR into their own? Perhaps the most noticeable design will be their printed silk shirt shown here. When you think of PURVEYR in terms of colors, you think of neutrals — the blacks, whites, and grays. And Randolf translated this through its tiled wall design complemented still by prints. To them PURVEYR is a platform that doesn’t force someone to fit a certain mold, and they kept this in mind as they craft pieces that will ultimately fit the wearer well.

PR( )BLEM

One of the many things that PURVEYR as a brand is known for is the stories they tell, and Jenni Contreras of pr( )blem echoes the same sentiments. To her, it’s important that the clothes she makes have stories worth telling. While she admits that not everyone can connect to her clothes, it’s what she kept in mind as she conceptualized this mini collection. She believes that PURVEYR, as a brand, has the ability to connect people and make them understand different concepts and art forms in a way that’s easier to digest. Thus, for this collection she geared pr( )blem to items that people can easily relate to and identify with.

PROUDRACE

For this mini collection, PROUDRACE found inspiration in PURVEYR’s beginnings. If PURVEYR built their brand from the ground up, this mini collection then is a visual representation of how one builds a look using essentials and turning them into a contemporary layered look — true to the PROUDRACE aesthetic. It features deconstructed under shirts, school uniform silhouettes, boxer shorts, basic blue jeans, and denim jacket. In addition to that, the pieces are also made sustainably through dead stock and recycled fabrics.

R-U-A

When one looks at the mini collection of RUA, one will probably notice the strong presence of traditional forms—most notably the Japanese kimono. However, this kimono comes with a twist: it is made of recycled threads by the women in Camarines Sur. The cloak has two sides — one with synthetic material and the other with natural cotton, and although the basketball shorts featured in this collection follow the typical silhouette, its material is of a dressier drape. RUA’s pieces work well when worn together, but at the same time can stand on their own. All these pieces anchor on PURVEYR’s multidimensional and diverse nature of work as well as the traits of curiosity and creativity that’s native to the brand.

SALAD DAY

At first glance, Salad Day is a stark contrast to the aesthetic of PURVEYR. While that may be true, Salad Day anchored on something that PURVEYR as a brand is known for — celebrating diversity and having a distinct identity. And when looked at from this perspective, the two brands don’t seem to differ after all. For this mini collection, Salad Day didn’t hold back on experimenting colors, texture, and maximal designs. This collection of Salad Day isn’t far from its usual; it still embodies the same youthful spirit and affinity towards intentionally-tacky aesthetic it always had.

NEON ISLAND

Few brands have a definite and easily recognizable aesthetic that one can point out from a mile away, and Neon Island is one of them. And with prints as the focal point of all of their designs, it’s no surprise that they created a print and colorway specifically for PURVEYR. In case you don’t know, all their prints are original, and hand drawn by the owners themselves; their silhouettes simple and easy. While Neon Island pieces usually boast of colors, this mini collection focused on the neutrals — creating the perfect balance of representing PURVEYR while still maintaining the signature style they’ve been known for.

BASIC MOVEMENT

Put on Sleep on the Floor by The Lumineers, and you’ll get a feel of the creative process behind Basic Movement’s mini collection. Oozing with blues and denims, Esme Palaganas found inspiration in the colors of twilight/kataware-doki/dusk and from her travels in the U.S. Her designs are driven by music first and foremost; imagery, feelings, and color, next. Her designs for PURVEYR? Simple: creative and cerebral for Esme knows that readers of PURVEYR are the kind who are aware of their own tastes and particular with the clothes they put on.
