Approachable, friendly, and fun—these are the three keys that make Bombvinos Bodega stand out. What started as an intimidating hurdle such as wine tasting and drinking became what it is known now—something people can keep coming back to, thanks to the atmosphere started by the duo behind Bombvinos, Paolo Monasterio and Joey Osmeña.
The core concept, tone, and feel of the place can mimic someone’s home or a friend’s house. Its usage of wood and warm, easy lighting evokes a sense of comfort within the restaurant. While the bodega is simply a word to associate it with community, the interiors enhance it further.
In this conversation, we learn about their current and future goals, what made them choose the name, and how community building plays a part in their brand. With their humble beginnings and exciting future in tow, they share their earnest dreams in making natural wines as accessible as they are right now.
What did you want to achieve with the Bombvinos Bodega?
“Within 2 years of running the business, we want to make natural wines even more accessible, beyond curious drinkers, and create a space for enjoying these. That’s how the Bodega came about.”
What made you choose the name ‘Bodega’?
“Bodega, in its most literal sense, is a term in Spain for a place you put wine in. In New York City however, it is a convenience store, something born out of necessity for people to get what they need. Bodegas are a haven to familiar faces—regulars who frequent the shop. For Bombvinos, it is a community center. Familiarity plays a big role in the spirit and atmosphere of the location where it is easy to get to know the people working behind this natural wine shop and restaurant.”
How do the events and community building you’ve been doing thus far build on your brand? How does it fortify Bombvinos?
“Beyond our usual operations, we also hold events and community building activities. For us, we want to also channel creativity and curiosity into new things, making sure that when they do something, they do it right. We are very curious people, but we also want to challenge ourselves on how we can further relate to people from different walks of life.”
What do you want the Bodega to achieve in the near future?
“We want to stay consistent while also riding the test of time, serving customers who have been there since day one. We hope to continue what we’re doing at a bigger scale, bringing the neighborhood bodega to more neighborhoods while maintaining its accessible and approachable place that can have great conversations and memorable experiences for all.”
